Online Marketing

Damn… I know I’ve been quiet for a while (Busy, busy, busy doing GREAT things!) but this one deserves some note.

I just finished reading about this over on the SearchEngineLand.com blog.  Google it seems has decided that they are going to start banning advertisers who are not playing by their rules.  They intend to ban them and keep them from starting up any new accounts as well.

This is a bold move is all I can say.  Made me think about what I’d been promoting and HOW .  I feel pretty safe but I am sure there are a healthy number of advertisers that have been doing some sketchy things to promote a variety of offers that Google does not like.

I urge you to take a quick trip over to SearchEngineLand.com and read all of the rest that they have to say.

Never a dull moment online!

Whew!… sorry to have been remiss in my posting but summer family time becomes much more important than all else.  That is why we work on the Internet right?!

Well, what I have for you today is a slide that we used in a recent presentation we were asked to provide for Bayer (yes… the Bayer you are thinking of ) on the social web.

The thrust of the presentation covered the importance of your presence as an "Authority" for your segment, product, brand type etc.  There are a tremendous number of areas that we need to effect to cover this all properly.  The diagram below exhibits that perfectly:

social-media-1.jpg

This is a relatively small look at much of what one will deal with when attempting to affect the social media universe we all operate (or at least SHOULD operate!) in.  I have no doubt that you will be able to add many services as there are many more out there right now and many more coming to light each and every day.

Please feel free to let me know what you feel is missing and I will recreate a new version of this image with all of your suggestions in place.

Now I also want to point out that we never did say that the fine folks at Bayer even attempt to deal with all of these presences.  We picked a much smaller field and then walked them through exactly how we tie them all together and then grow the whole thing.

We will be taking the presentation and making it a video that will be posted on our site shortly.  It is a dynamite talk!

Please do let me know what other services I should add and we shall produce a bigger, better image!

Onward & Upward!

This is an easy post as all I want to do is point out a new site I just put up.

The site features a full breakdown of the best 29 plugins that you should add to your browser.

Now, it doesn’t just list them but also breaks down the list by category based upon the real world things they do.

Here’s a shot of the site:

Two pieces of advice:

1. Go set up Firefox if you haven’t already (you will be VERY happy)

FireFox

2. Jump on over to this site and set yourself up as a Competitive Intelligence expert

That’s all I’ve got for you.  Fantastic site that will help you carry yourself way beyond your competitors.

Todays post covers something we are all becoming quite used to seeing in just about every single publication these days…

twitter-logo.jpg

What I want to share with you has nothing to do with one of the many ways people are now gouging up followers but rather is a look at the potential universe one lives in as a publisher on twitter.  There are many different types of relationships one can carry out and they are all worth looking at.

The potential for creating a successful Social Media program requires that all possibilities be considered.  Once you look at the image below you may or may not want to follow up with many of them… but do know that a truly successful Social Media campaign does require many to be in place.

So here is an image created by Brian Solis that very clearly maps out many of the possibilities:

(click the image to see a full size view)

The areas the image covers are as follows:

  • URL Shorteners
  • Mobile Applications
  • Event Management
  •  Communication Management
  • Stream Management
  • Geolocation + Imaging
  • Relationship Management
  • Trends & Analysis
  • Twitter Search
  • Trends & Analysis
  • Marketing/Advertising
  • Twitter Search

There are more to come.

Take a look over the list and see where you fit in right now.

Then pull out a yellow pad and start to map out what you are going to add and how you will handle it.

The list can get quite extensive but is also a blast to play with as you go.

One piece of advice… treat this aspect of your business as you would any other.  You need to pick out the pieces you want to use and then add them in one at a time.  Then you also need to budget the amount of time you are going to give each of them during your day so you don’t KILL all of your productive time.
