Hi Brian,

Big Bear Lake looks like a great destination.

The vacation was awesome to say the least.

We spent two days in Anchorage first (which frankly is an industrial town with a lot of gift shops, fur shops, hotels and restaurants) which was very interesting. A lot of that time was spent provisioning up but we did get to hit the Anchorage Museum which was (at least for us) very interesting.

We next were driven about 4 hours East, Northeast to a lake where we were picked up by float plane and taken to our friends cabin on Lake Tazlina.

The next week was spent on some hunting, fishing, hiking, some metaphysical work and a lot of relaxing and just living. We were sleeping in a tent outside our friend's cabin (a one room with a bed, stove table and about enough room to turn around) and I do have to say the nights were pretty damned cold. I have a new appreciation for the mummy sleeping bag now.

I did take a decent number of pictures (had to document the whole area for my kids (boys 9 and 7) but had trouble taking many at times as we had a gun in our hands pretty much at all times when we were outside the immediate camp -- anti-grizzly protection. I'll post the flickr link in a post.

All in all again it was awesome.

I am already planning next year and will add in some time down in Kenai to do some serious fishing as well.

I highly recommend Alaska.

Thanks again Brian and thanks for reading.

Onward & Upward!

Hi Sam, How did your vacation go? It looks very exciting. My wife and I just celebrated our 25th in a cabin at Big Bear Lake in the mountains of California. You can see my post about it in the link I used to comment. I can't wait to see your pics. Alaska and Australia are the top two places we want to visit.
